So the sudden trip to Bruce Pearl’s Tennessee program over the past week was more than just a last minute stop. Today Tobias Harris (PF, 6’8″, 2010) committed to Pearl and the Volunteers, giving Bruce a serious big man in the class.
With Josh Selby (PG, 6’2″, 2010) committing to Tennessee recently, we are obviously no longer tracking him as an ACC target. Bruce Pearl has gotten a couple of recruits from the 2010 basketball recruiting class recently. Although Pearl has built competitive teams, we’re yet to see that breakthrough of talent in the overall recruiting landscape that Memphis has recently experienced.
Meanwhile, here’s a good read on Duke target Kenny Boynton (PG/SG, 6’2″, 2009), who is going through his on campus and in-home visits now:
One asset … that most overlook when evaluating Boynton, is that he has physique that is well equipped to handle the rigors of the college ranks, another would be his incredible leaping ability. He can also fill up the stat sheet by contributing with his scoring, defense, and surprisingly his rebounding ability at the guard spot.
Boynton is a very physical player, and it’s true that a lot of high school players are too slender to compete at the college level. Many of them are put on heavy weight programs over the summer before their freshman season, but some players do not put the value into these programs that they should. However, Boynton is already strong enough to play at the college level and should be able to focus almost entirely on his game.
