Just a few days after Maryland received good news regarding center Steve Goins, they get another win:James Padgett (PF,6’8″,2009) has given a verbal commitment to the Terps:
Padgett, who transferred to Lincoln from Xaverian, said he chose Maryland over the University of Pittsburgh. He said the Panthers were not able to offer him as much playing time because they had just signed two players at his position.
Big time pickup for Gary Williams.

Duke got verbal commitments over the weekend from two top recruits who were visiting.
Tyler Thornton (PG/SG, 6’2″, 2010) and Josh Hairston (SF/PF, 6’8″, 2010) both committed to the Blue Devils and should see playing time for Coach K. Not sure if Tyler Thornton’s commitment will effect any other recruits’ decisions (such as Kenny Boynton), but maybe not since Boynton and Thornton are in two different high school classes.

The Duke Blue Devils were glad when they successfully recruited Mason Plumlee (PF/C, 6’11”, 2009), who was playing prep basketball in Arden, NC. However, they were able to also secure his older brother Miles after the elder Plumlee decided not to attend his original commitment at Stanford.
The story of how the move to NC helped the Blue Devils land the brothers is in this article by the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette:
“We have to pinch ourselves every now and then,” the boys’ father, Perky Plumlee, said Thursday. “They both had to work hard, and they have had to overcome some things. It makes us feel proud and blessed.”
I can’t help but wonder if Perky is Mr. Plumlee’s real name or a nickname. Can someone in the Duke fold let me know?
