Doron Lamb Dominates

August 26, 2008

Doron Lamb (SG,6’4″,2010) is impressive for not only being a good basketball player, he’s playing great basketball against players a year older than he is and holding his own. Despite the ragged nature of a Rucker Park event, Lamb looked like he could hang with the mostly older players at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 and he also dominated at the Nike Tournament of Champions.

Duke is in the mix for Lamb, who will be leaving the Big East dominated New York area to play his junior season for Oak Hill Academy in Virginia, which is solidly in ACC country. Right now it seems that Lamb is leaning towards the big East, but perhaps some of the ACC teams will get a shot after he spends some time away from the Big East. Miami has also been mentioned as having interest in Lamb, and the list is only likely to grow after more schools get a look at him.

ACC Basketball Recruiting Roundup

July 30, 2008

Lots and lots of news today…

Earnest Ross video

Several ACC teams are watching NC player Earnest Ross (PG/SG, 6’4″, 2009), including Boston College and Clemson. Here’s some video of the player from Panther Creek:

Meyers Leonard commits

Just a couple of days ago we added Meyers Leonard (PF/C,6’11”,2010) to our ACC Targets list, and now he’s already committed to Illinois.

Michael Snaer: down to two?

Rumors abound that west coast guard Michael Snaer (SG, 6’5″ ,2009) is no longer considering UCLA, and that Mizzou and FSU are the two contenders.

John Langford commits

Josh Langford (SG, 6’6″, 2010) also has decided not to play in the ACC and committed to Louisville. I’m not sure how seriously Langford was considering any ACC schools.

Doron Lamb

By all accounts, Doron Lamb (SG, 6’4″, 2010) is going to be one of the best players in the class of 2010 and will get a whole bevy of offers. However, Alex is reporting that at this time, only Duke has not offered. (Updated: corrected)

Cody Shuffler

While Meyers Leonard is being taken off the board, we’re adding Cody Shuffler (SF/PF, 6’7″, 2009) to the list, as NC State has expressed interest. Shuffler is somewhat under-the-radar for ACC fans, but he’s one to keep an eye on.

Kenny Boynton

Duke fans are in a holding pattern on Boynton, where Florida and Duke seem to be the only two Boynton is considering

Aaron Dotson with Miami offer

USA Today is reporting that Aaron Dotson (SG/SF, 6’4″, 2009) has an offer from Miami. (It’s at the bottom of the Derrick Favors article, which is also a good read.)

ACC Basketball Recruiting Roundup, 6/17/2008

June 17, 2008

So lots of stuff to get into…

Emmanuel Negedu, Memphis dunkasaurus session

Emmanuel Negedu (6’7″, PF, 2008 ) is expected to make his decision this week. So far the quietest visits were Tennesee and Georgia Tech, but lots of writers chimed in on his Indiana and Memphis visits. The consensus from the outside looking in has been that Indiana did not impress him as much as they wanted but the Memphis visit went well. One highlight of the Tiger visit was Negedu showing off his dunkability:

After the practice was over, Negedu stepped on the court and demonstrated his jumping ability. I had heard a rumor that he could stand underneath the basket, jump up and touch his forehead on the rim. While I did not see him do this, I can say that I think it is very possible. Negedu, while wearing flip flops, showed off a variety of windmill and backwards dunks.

Okay, flip-flops? I am equally impressed and worried that he would slip and fall, probably tearing his ACL in a season ending collapse. I seriously hope the ‘flip-flops’ weren’t those flimsy shower slippers and maybe something with a buckle? I mean, windmill dunks in flip-flops…who are you, Evel Knievel? (for all you kids out there, Mr. Kneival was a daredevil motorscylist from way back in the day…)

Meanwhile, Adam Zagoria has spoken to Negedu’s prep schoool coach, who plays it close to the vest…but this should all be over this week.

John Henson and the national team

So it turns out John Henson (6’10”, SF/PF, 2009, UNC) wasn’t snubbed for the US basketball U-18 team:

One of the fastest-rising prospects in recent years, Henson was asked to compete for a spot on the national team but didn’t want to miss Nike’s LeBron James Skills Academy in Akron from July 5-9.

So Henson just decided to go a different way, NOT USA Basketball ignoring him.

Doron Lamb’s ‘dream school’

Meanwhile, it looked like Doron Lamb (6’4″,SG,2010) a Duke, Maryland and Georgia Tech target, was favoring Louisville, but now he says there is no leader although Syracuse is his ‘dream school’. Looks like it will be tough to get him away from the Big East. Maybe, if that that’s true, Maryland has the best shot?

Dante Taylor

Our boy Alex Schwartz is the man when it comes to talking to some of the best prospects in the East. Check out this awesome interview with offensive stud Dante Taylor (6’8″, PF, 2009), who is a Maryland target. Although it seems like he’s gettin’ a lot of Big East love, Maryland needs an inside scorer in the worst way.

UNC Recruiting Notes, 2009; Doron Lamb to Oak Hill?

May 14, 2008

UNC is going after shooting guards heavily for 2009, offering Xavier Henry (6’6”), Dominic Cheek (6’6”), Leslie McDonald (6’4”), and Nolan Dennis (6’5”). This is all in addition to already signing Dexter Strickland (6’3”). It’s obvious that UNC feels they will need to load up at that position, especially with two big men coming from the Class of 2008 and three more bigs already committed for 2009. UNC will be loaded with high caliber big men. With PG Larry Drew coming in to back up Bobby Frasor next season, and Class of 2010 PG Kendall Marshall already inked, UNC is already loaded with incoming firepower, but one shooting guard from the 2009 class would make them incredibly deep. Coach Roy Williams loves to push the ball, and having a deep team makes that strategy very effective.

Given this, I just don’t see UNC going after John Wall (PG, 6’3”), even though he’s a superstar talent and probably will go quickly to the NBA. Wall still lists North Carolina, but the aura around Wall is that he’s going to be one-and-done, and UNC is already pretty set at PG without taking him. At this point, it seems (from the outside looking in) like Wall is more interested in the Heels than they are with him, but who knows? Duke hasn’t offered either, and I said this before, but when the #1 PG in the country plays in Raleigh and neither Duke or UNC have officially extended an offer, it means there is more that meets the eye, if you know what I mean.

I still think Wall looks like he’s Memphis bound, but that’s just trying to read the tea leaves. Wall is an explosive player who can really push the ball, and he would definitely be able to play in the frenetic style that UNC plays, but it may be just the situation around Wall that is keeping him from playing in Chapel Hill or Durham. That said, NC State has offered Wall as well, so if he wanted to stay close to home and play in the ACC, there is opportunity.

Oh, one last thing, Class of 2010 guard Doron Lamb(6’4”, SG) , current target of Maryland and Georgia Tech, is rumored to be considering playing for Oak Hill next season.

Louisville leads for Doron Lamb

April 23, 2008

Doron Lamb

Doron Lamb (6’4″, SG, 2010) has emerged recently as a big time prospect and it look like, for now, he is leaning toward the Big East. In this interview, he states that Louisville is his leader, and that he apparently is considering Rutgers as well, and that Syracuse and Duke are pursuing him but have not offered:

NB: What colleges do you currently hold an offer from?
DL: I got an offer from Rutgers, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Louisville, St. John’s, Seton Hall, that’s it.

NB: [Which] schools [would you say] . . . are seriously recruiting you?
DL: Louisville, [that’s] the main one. Louisville and Rutgers, that’s the main ones.

NB: Are there any other ones that have not offered that are also heavily interested?
DL: Syracuse and Duke.

Kenny Boynton

Apparently Kenny Boynton(6’2″, combo guard) was able to really raise his stock over the weekend with his performance at the Real Deal on the Hill, getting rave reviews for his outside shooting and his scoring. Boynton has a reputation as a shooter and scorer who will take any shot, from anywhere, at any time. Duke is still in the mix for Boynton, as is Georgia Tech.
