Steve Goins officially joins Maryland basketball

September 26, 2008

Good news for Terp fans, Steve Goins (C, 6’10”, 2009) has been deemed eligible to play by the NCAA clearing house.

ACC Basketball Targets

Two players we added over the summer as ACC targets and should have mentioned before now: Harrison Barnes (SF, 6’6″, 2010), with an offer from Duke in hand, and DeMatha’s Victor Oladipo (SF), who has an offer from Maryland, Virginia, Clemson and Virginia Tech, among others. No word yet on who might have the inside track.

Talib Zanna and Rashad Whack video

July 27, 2008

Here’s some video (with music) of Talib Zanna (C, 6’9″, 2009), a player with a lot of Big East interest but also is being looked at by Clemson and Virginia Tech, and Rashad Whack (SG, 6’2″, 2009), who has interest from the Hokies as well.

I don’t know but I would venture a guess that Maryland is also at least watching Zanna, with the recruiting losses they’ve experienced. From what I’ve seen, I would rate Zanna as a player who could see time on an ACC roster, (high major contributor or mid major starter).

Doron Lamb to Oak Hill; Zanna an ACC target

July 20, 2008

It seems pretty clear at this point that Doron Lamb (PG/SG, 6’4″, 2010) will play the 2008-2009 basketball season for Oak Hill Academy, and Alex has a bit of info that backs that up. Lamb is one of the top guards in the Class of 2010 and will probably get a lot more ink before he makes his decision.

Josh Selby, Talib Zanna
Meanwhile, another top guard from the class of 2010, Josh Selby (PG/SG, 6’2″), had the odd misfortune of playing basketball really well at the wrong time. Selby poured in 25 for DeMatha in a game after the NCAA open evaluation period, doing scoring battle with Rashad Whack (SG, 6’2″, 2009) and Talib Zanna (C, 6’9″, 2009). Clemson and Virginia Tech are in the mix for Zanna, who is somewhat under the radar but can score the ball. We are adding Zanna to the ACC Targets list.

And now, finally, some good news for Maryland fans

Jeff Ermann of TurtleSportsReport.com is reporting that Will Regan (C, 6’8″ , 2010), not only has an offer from Maryland, he has the Terps at the top of his list, and may be a package deal with Terp target Taran Buie (PG, 6’0″, 2010):

Regan’s teammate on the Albany AAU squad is touted 2010 combo guard Taran Buie, who is also one of the Terps’ top prospects in the class. According to Regan, when he informed Buie about his Maryland offer, Buie told him, “Just say the word and we’ll play together.”

I wouldn’t put that down as a lock, but it is encouraging after the off season that Maryland fans have gone through. Regan also has an offer from Virginia Tech.

DeShawn Painter chooses Florida

May 19, 2008

Scout.com is reporting that DeShawn Painter (6’9″, PF, 2009), who had offers from ACC schools Clemson and Virginia, has chosen the Florida Gators as his school.

Peyton Siva to Louisville

I mentioned a few days ago that Peyton Siva (5’11”, PG, 2009) was one of the point guards offered by Miami but wasn’t considering the Hurricanes, has decided to attend Louisville and is officially ‘off the board’ for the ACC.

Danny McElroy

A note on a player who already commited, Danny McElroy (6’7″, PF, 2009) had agreed to attend Cincinnati but has now backed out and is opening his recruitment back up. No idea if he is considering ACC schools yet.
