BasketballElite.com has an interview with Troy Williams (SF, 6’7″, 2013), who has interest from Virginia, Virginia Tech and Georgetown. Williams is the nephew of Boo Williams, and he talks about what he’s working on his own game and what he thinks he will be able to bring to a college team.
Greg McClinton, ACC Basketball Target
December 15, 2010ACC Players in the Draft; UNC Offers McAdoo
June 26, 2009A quick rundown of ACC players taken in the NBA draft last night:
First Round
#12, Charlotte – Gerald Henderson , Duke
#13, Indiana – Tyler Hansbrough, UNC
#16, Chicago – James Johnson, Wake Forest
#18, Minnesota – Ty Lawson, UNC (traded to Denver)
#19, Atlanta – Jeff Teague, Wake Forest
#28, Minnesota – Wayne Ellington, UNC
#29, New York – Toney Douglas, Florida State
Second Round
#46, Phoenix – Danny Green, UNC
#51, San Antonio – Jack McClinton, Miami
Some initial head scratches in the overall draft, such as why Jack McClinton wasn’t drafted higher or why the Bobcats took a guard when when they need post players so badly.
James McAdoo offered by UNC
James McAdoo (PF, 6’8″, 2011) now has another offer from an ACC school, and it’s a big one. The UNC Tar Heels have offered McAdoo according to Scout.com, and this offer is added to the existing ones he has from Virginia, Clemson, Kentucky and Florida. McAdoo is one of the top ranked recruits for 2011 and has several big schools after him. He’s also strongly considering Duke at this time.
McAdoo is a strong player with good patience and timing. That timing allows him to be both a shot blocker and a scorer when combined with his solid 10 foot floater and ability to wade through traffic to get through the hoop. Definitely a big time prospect.
Here’s some video of McAdoo:
Durand Scott Basketball Recruiting Update
September 25, 2008Durand Scott (SG/SF, 6’5″, 2009), a player who you might have seen recently playing in Rucker Park has a list of eight schools, including some ACC colleges.
Alex recently interviewed Scott, who confirmed his list of eight, including a ‘mystery’ school:
“UCLA, Tennessee, UConn, Memphis, Virginia, Miami, . . . Xavier [and] . . . [Pause] I can’t remember the last one . . .”
Shortly after this interview, Scott cut his list to five, eliminating Virginia and Xavier, but keeping Pitt (which Alex correctly guessed as the mystery school).
So, Scott’s current list still includes Miami.
More on Derrick Favors
I also wanted to follow up on a story we recently shared about Derrick Favors (PF, 6’9″, 2009), where the Atlanta Journal-Consitution reported that Favors was listing six schools. Favors was not actually quoted as saying that he had eliminated anyone, but it is important to note that Connecticut was also listed. Many services have UConn as completely out of it, so for now it seems like a bit more mystery.
Cody Shuffler Gets More Looks
August 29, 2008We mentioned Cody Shuffler (SF/PF, 6’7″, 2009), a player with interest from NC State a few weeks ago, and now it seems Shuffler also has interest from Virginia Tech as well. A bevy of schools are recruiting Shuffler, including Davidson, Cornell, and West Virginia.
Shuffler apparently is high on Davidson’s list, and it would not be surprising to see him end up there.
The same article mentions that Mike Grace (PG, 6’0″, 2009), a high school teammate of Wake Forest commit C.J. Harris (SG,6’3″,2009) has received an offer from Penn.
Meanwhile, Tobias Harris (PF, 6’8″, 2010) recently visited Virginia with his family to see what the school has to offer:
“Coach Leitao and his coaching staff broke down Virginia’s offense and defense on film. Tobias had the opportunity to watch the team practice while coach Leitao was able to show how effective his offense works when done correctly. Coach Leitao stressed the importance of strong team, individual defense and positions on defense.
Harris reportedly also visited Maryland and Georgetown as well.
Ryan Kelly’s list
May 27, 2008A name that has become hot among ACC teams is Ryan Kelly ( 6’11”, PF, 2009 ), a highly rated player who is orginally from Pawling, NY but now plays high school basketball in Raliegh. Kelly’s current list, according to the Winston-Salem Journal, is North Carolina, North Carolina State, Davidson, Wake Forest, Virginia, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame and Stanford. UNC and Wake have offered scholarships already.
DeShawn Painter chooses Florida
May 19, 2008Scout.com is reporting that DeShawn Painter (6’9″, PF, 2009), who had offers from ACC schools Clemson and Virginia, has chosen the Florida Gators as his school.
Peyton Siva to Louisville
I mentioned a few days ago that Peyton Siva (5’11”, PG, 2009) was one of the point guards offered by Miami but wasn’t considering the Hurricanes, has decided to attend Louisville and is officially ‘off the board’ for the ACC.
Danny McElroy
A note on a player who already commited, Danny McElroy (6’7″, PF, 2009) had agreed to attend Cincinnati but has now backed out and is opening his recruitment back up. No idea if he is considering ACC schools yet.
Top Ten 2009 ACC High School Basketball Targets
May 2, 2008These are my current top ten players who have either been contacted by an ACC school, offered a scholarship by an ACC school or committed to an ACC school. The ACC schools that are in the mix are in parenthesis next to the player’s name. This does not mean that ACC schools lead for these players OR that the order of listings is indication of a leader among the schools.
1. Derrick Favors, 6’9” C (Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, North Carolina State)
2. Xavier Henry, 6’6” SG (North Carolina)
3. Kenny Boynton, 6’2” SG (Duke, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Miami)
4. John Wall, 6’3”, PG (Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina, NC State, Virginia)
5. Dominic Cheek, 6’6” SG (North Carolina, Miami)
6. Daniel Orton, 6’9” C (Maryland, Wake Forest)
7. Dexter Strickland, 6’3” SG (Committed to North Carolina)
8. Jordan Hamilton, 6’7” SF (North Carolina State)
9. John Henson, 6’10” PF (Committed to North Carolina)
10. DeShawn Painter, 6’9” PF (Clemson, Florida State, NC State, Virginia)
A notable exception here is Lance Stephenson (6’5” SF), who is #2 on many rankings and is often tagged as being a UNC target. I am pretty much of the opinion that UNC is not actively recruiting Stephenson, so until I see or hear otherwise (send me a link if you’ve got something), I am dropping him from my list of ACC targets. This moves Xavier Henry (who I think is leaning towards Memphis and Kansas over UNC) into my #2 spot, and introduces target DeShawn Painter into the top 10.
I also am not adding DeShonte Riley (6’10” C) to the mix even though he’s listed Boston College as a possible school. I kind of like DeShawn Painter a little more at this point.
These rankings may change as I get to see more of these guys, either in person or on video.
UPDATE, 7/1/208:After I posted this back in May, 2008, there have been a lot of changes and commitments. So if you want to keep up when the player DB comes online, click here.
