Two great things to bring today from James Blackburn, an up and coming scout who works with ABA team Winston-Salem Storm and most recently worked the Josh Howard basketball camp, which over 200 players attended.
James has contributed the following write up on the camp and introduces us to Greg McClinton (SF, 6’5″, 2013), a player who will get some looks from top programs. McClinton already has interest from Virginia Tech.

It’s been Josh Howard frenzy this week at Reynolds Park Recreation Center in Winston-Salem, NC. Josh Howard and his foundation put together a class A camp for the kids in community for free, providing them with basketball instruction, games, scrimmages, and special guest speakers. Josh is to be commended for what he is doing in the community. He really is a class act. After spending a full week from the inside as a coach/counselor at the camp, I can honestly say that Josh Howard is one of the nicest, most down-to-earth, funny, and appreciative professional athletes I have ever met. The camp was a great success with almost 200 kids taking advantage of this great opportunity.
One kid in particular really caught my attention with his basketball skill level. Greg McClinton (6’5”, 165lbs.) is only 13 years old in a grown man’s body. Greg is entering his 8th grade year at Forsyth Country Day, where he plans on playing on the Varsity squad. He plays for the Charlotte Royals and the United Stars AAU clubs, and is highly successful for both teams. Greg attended the Josh Howard camp for the first 3 days, and played in the full court 5 on 5 scrimmage games with the 14 and 15 year olds. From the limited time I saw him play (usually as the coach of the opposing team), I saw an extremely talented kid who is big and who plays big. He is strong, has long arms, and is extremely coordinated for a big man at his age. He can shoot pretty well, he runs the floor and finishes, can handle the ball, and is athletic. He showed a great attitude at camp, and listened intently when one of us coaches were running a drill.He is still young and extremely raw, but the future looks bright for Greg, with all the potential he shows. So far Virginia Tech has been the only school to notice Greg and his talents, but I am sure it is only a matter of time before other schools begin to notice Winston-Salem’s very own Chris Bosh Jr.
